Better data faster and safer

Inspections and Maintenance

The HEBI platform can be used to build a wide variety of robust robots.  Many customers purchase robot building blocks and create what they need.  However, the fastest growing part of our business is custom development for industrial customers that have a specific problem to solve.

Our industrial focus so far is on automation of inspections and maintenance applications.  These types of applications consist of a wide variety of tasks, and take place in highly variable workspaces - very challenging for conventional robots but a great fit for robots built with the HEBI platform.

Some of our projects lead to off the shelf solutions that are ready to go to work, such as our universal NDT encoder arm (MAPS).  Others result in capable platforms that can serve as the starting point for a variety of automation solutions, such as our raster scanner and other mobile bases such as Tready.

More throughput. Better data.

Raster Scanner

The Raster Scanner is an example of a quick turnaround custom development project. A manufacturer of wind turbine blades needed a system to automate the phased array inspection of the spar caps - long narrow structures that make up the structure of the blade.

The HEBI team quickly designed and tested several designs, and within weeks scanners were deployed at plants around the world. The inspection process was reduced from six hours to one hour with improved data quality.

This project is an illustration of the power of the HEBI platform for robot development, and the strength of HEBI as a custom development partner.

Ruggedized Mobile Base and Manipulation

Tready

HEBI’s treaded mobile base, nicknamed “Tready”, is an extremely versatile and agile mobile platform, capable of navigating difficult and uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and accessing confined spaces.

It was initially developed in response to a customer’s need for a lightweight and extensible platform to inspect difficult terrains, including landslides. Since then it has evolved into multi-purpose platform capable of performing inspection and maintenance tasks in the most difficult environments and confined spaces.

Powered by HEBI’s modular robotics platform, Tready can be modified to alternative form factors and can be easily combined with other HEBI kits such as arms with grippers, cameras, or even third party sensors.
